Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of 242 Nautilus Drive just before 6:30 Sunday morning after receiving a report of a woman damaging a vehicle with a baseball bat.

While officers spoke with the vehicle’s owner, the woman approached and told police she had hurt her son, according to a press released sent by Capt. Brian M. Wright, commander of the department’s investigative services division.

Police went to the woman’s apartment and found an unconscious and unresponsive 4-year-old boy, Wright’s press release states. Police did not disclose the child’s age.

Officers began CPR and the child was taken by the New London Fire Department to L+M Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
