Sean Ryan, 46, of Watertown, was pronounced dead on scene after his car was struck by another car traveling in the opposite direction on Route 202.
The Torrington Police Department, Fire Department and Trinity Ambulance services responded to the crash on New Litchfield Street near Hassig Road around 2 p.m., where two cars were found off the roadway, police said.
A witness told police that two vehicles, one of which was a 2010 Audi A4, appeared to be racing as they traveled west on Route 202. At one point, the Audi moved into the eastbound lane and passed the other car.
