Police charge mother, friend of jailed Old Lyme man after uncovering plan to pressure assault victim to recant on recorded jailhouse calls, records show

The mother and friend of an Old Lyme man jailed on charges he sexually and physically assaulted a former girlfriend are now facing witness tampering charges for their role in a bungled scheme to pressure the young woman to recant her story.

Christine Lacoursiere, 63, and James Sullivan, 27, were arrested by state police Wednesday and charged with one count each of witness tampering.

Investigators say the pair tried to help Anthony L. Lacoursiere, 28, force his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend to recant her allegations that Lacoursiere assaulted her in early January by helping him circumvent a protective order and keep the scheme secret.
