Old Lyme man charged with sexual assault coordinated with friend, mother on jailhouse phone calls to pressure his accuser to recant, state police say

An Old Lyme man jailed on sexual assault charges now is accused of witness tampering after state police said he conspired with his mother and friend — on recorded jailhouse phone calls — to convince his accuser to recant her statements to police.

The recordings indicated Anthony L. Lacoursiere, 28, knew his calls were being monitored, but his haphazard use of a code name for the victim along with arguments he had with his friend and mother about the scheme ultimately unraveled his plan, according to state police records.

Lacoursiere now faces additional charges of tampering with a witness and violation of a protective order in connection with the over-the-phone plot and additional arrests are expected, state police said Monday.
