Officials condemn Wolcott house where woman, 12 cats, died; 41 cats and a dog survived

What started as a medical call to Wolcott police Saturday ended with the death of a sick resident, the removal of 53 cats — 12 of which were dead — and the house being condemned.

The home on Spring Road “was in complete disarray with a horrible stench,” Chief Edward Stephens said Monday. In addition to the cats, police also found a dog that was in very poor health.

Officers responded to the house to help medics about 11 a.m. when a call came in about a person who was suffering from a medical emergency. The woman ended up dying before she could be taken to the hospital, Stephens said.
