Nor’easter has arrived in Connecticut, will drop up to 18 inches of snow, bring wind gusts, outages

Snow has started falling across Connecticut, whitening some highways and forcing schools to close or teach remotely. Up to 18 inches is expected to fall in much of the state.

The first major nor’easter of 2021 and the first snowfall of February is expected to include severe wind gusts, which likely will knock down trees and branches, leading to power outages.

Travel is expected to be very difficult to impossible, with hazardous conditions likely impacting morning and evening commutes; a trailer ban is in place on some of the starts highways.

Providers may have to cancel COVID-19 vaccination appointments scheduled for Monday and possibly Tuesday because of the snow, according to the Department of Public Health.
