New name for Hartford’s redeveloped Westbrook Village intended to look toward new future on site of demolished, 1950s complex

The new housing, storefronts and office space that are replacing the dilapidated Westbrook Village in Hartford’s North End also will get a new name that looks to a revitalized future on the site of the old, rundown housing complex.

The development will be called the “Village at Park River” because the Park River flows along the western edge of the 40-acre site.

“This project has always been about more than replacing outdated affordable housing,” said Annette Sanderson, executive director of the city’s housing authority. “It’s been about creating a vibrant new community where residents can live, shop and do business.
