With motor vehicle thefts on the rise in New Haven, New Haven police arrested three juveniles for stealing a car and recovered a number of stolen cars Friday.
New Haven has seen a spike in motor vehicle thefts this year, according to police, with reports of stolen vehicles up 1.7% in New Haven since 2019.
On Friday morning, New Haven police officers located a black 2015 Ford Fusion, stolen from Hamden a few days prior, in the city’s Hill North area, near Greenwood Street. The car was running and three juveniles were asleep inside.
An officer arrested the 15-year-old operator of the vehicle after breaking a window to unlock the car, police said.
