New Haven police crackdown nets 8 illegal guns, likely prevented retaliation for murder, officials say

A New Haven police task force seized eight guns and arrested nine people over the past two weeks in a crackdown on illegal guns and violence in the Elm City, including two arrests Sunday that likely prevented retaliation for another murder earlier that same morning.

The crackdown brings the total to 20 illegal guns seized in New Haven since the beginning of July as detectives try to quell violence after a series of shootings and other incidents throughout the summer, police announced.

“These gun arrests helped stop violence and saved lives,” Assistant Chief Karl Jacobson said. “Detectives and officers are working extremely hard to assist in efforts with community members to stop violence in New Haven.
