New Britain rally speakers: Free inmate who had to give birth in a prison cell with no medical care

At a rally Thursday in downtown New Britain, community activists called on Connecticut to quickly release a prison inmate who was left in her cell two years ago to give birth with only her cellmate to help.

About three dozen people — including ACLU and New Britain Racial Justice Coalition members — demanded Tianna Laboy, 22, be let out of prison.

Saying the prison system already victimized Laboy, protesters also called for the state to arrange behavioral health services and other aid to help get her life back on track.

“I don’t know about you, but having a baby in a jail cell — in a toilet bowl — with your roommate as your delivery nurse seems like cruel and unusual punishment to me,” Rev.
