Murder case against Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel in Martha Moxley killing could come to an end today

A hearing has been scheduled Friday morning in Superior Court on the case against Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel, renewing speculation that state prosecutors have reached a decision on whether to retry him for the murder 45 years ago of his teenaged neighbor in Greenwich, Martha Moxley.

Skakel’s new lawyer, Stephan E. Seeger, said he has been asked to attend the hearing, but has not been told in advance what, if anything, will take place. The case remains sealed under a state juvenile offender law.

There have been discussions between prosecutors and the various lawyers who have represented Skakel about how to move forward with the decades old case since the state Supreme Court in 2018 affirmed a lower court decision reversing Skakel’s 2002 murder conviction.
