More than 40 cats rescued from Connecticut home

Forty-three cats were removed from an elderly couple’s Waterford home recently, the animal control officer and a shelter operator said Friday.

Thirty-six of the cats were taken to the Paws Cat Shelter in Woodstock. All will be put up for adoption, shelter President Fay Beriau said.

The cats had been well fed, but only 10 were spayed or neutered and some had injuries and illnesses that needed attention, Beriau said. Four cats who lived in the modest, single-story home have not been caught, she said.

Waterford-East Lyme ACO Robert Yuchniuk said the profusion of felines came to his attention after someone posted a photo on Facebook of a cat in a tree near the elderly couple’s home.
