More than 2,000 people flood Hartford streets to protest killing of George Floyd

Chanting Black Lives Matter and no justice no peace, more than 2,000 people took to the streets of Hartford Saturday afternoon in a near-spontaneous expression of rage and grief over the spate of police killings across the U.S.

Like much of the crowd, Morgan heard about the rally just hours before when a friend texted her a flyer.

The multiracial crowd, nearly all of whom were wearing masks, gathered at noon in front of the carousel in Bushnell Park. Together they marched to the Hartford Public Safety complex down the street. Some held signs that said “Enough,” and “I can’t breathe,” echoing the words of George Floyd, killed May 25 by police officers in Minneapolis.
