A Middletown fire Saturday morning took the life of three dogs and displaced seven people, officials said.

Firemen from Middletown Fire Department, South Fire District, Cromwell Fire Department and Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a residence on Higby Road, in the Westfield District, around 4:30 a.m.

“Crews from Westfield, South District, Cromwell, and Middlefield assisted fire suppression with search, roof-top ventilation, and rapid intervention team support,” a news release said.

Most of the fire was taken care of by 6 a.m., but “complete fire extinguishment in the garage and attic space required additional efforts due to the construction of the home and the fire load created by the large amount of personal items stored there,” the release added.
