A Meriden man shot and killed Wednesday night on Olive Street after he apparently was struck by a car from behind, according to police.
Sammy Richard Ortiz, 24, suffered several gunshot wounds in addition to injuries sustained in the crash and was transported to MidState Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Meriden police announced late Wednesday night.
Police were called to the scene at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday for a report of shots fired and discovered Ortiz lying in the road outside 40 Olive St., Lt. John Mennone said. They and paramedics treated Ortiz while witnesses described how the incident unfolded.
