On Monday evening, the UConn men’s basketball team announced redshirt sophomore Mamadou Diarra underwent successful surgery on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus. Diarra suffered the injury last week during basketball workouts and is expected to miss four-to-six months.

“The surgery went very well and there were no surprises,” James Doran, UConn’s athletic trainer, said in a press release. “Mamadou will begin rehab immediately and we would expect him to make a full recovery.”

The Queens, New York native sat out the entire 2016-17 season due to thinning of the cartilage in his knees that caused chronic swelling and soreness, also known as patellofemoral syndrome.
