Mansfield and Windham still want power to limit student parties, but Gov. Lamont is only offering more state police

The towns of Mansfield and Windham, home to UConn and Eastern Connecticut State University, are once again calling on the state of Connecticut to allow them to enact stricter gathering limits and curb large parties that could spread COVID-19 throughout the community.

But, two weeks after the towns sent in a formal request, state officials said they currently have no intentions of either approving or denying the request.

The state has instead responded to the towns’ underlying concerns by providing additional state police troopers on Thursdays through Sundays. Those added patrols are meant to both deter and break up unsafe gatherings.
