Man, 72, seriously injured in Plainfield crash with tractor trailer, police say

A crash involving a car and a tractor trailer in Plainfield left a 72-year-old fighting for his life, police said Tuesday.

The collision happened about 5:30 p.m. Monday on Putnam Road in the Wauregan section of town, they said. Alan Lavallee of Plainfield was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation shows that the Grand Marquis Lavallee was driving south crossed over the centerline, striking the oncoming northbound KW Construction W900 truck, they said. The car came to a rest against a utility pole, and Lavallee was removed.
