Lawyer seeks competency hearing for Plainville man held on child porn charges after suicide attempts

The man accused of secretly taping naked young girls at a Plainville school shower room has tried suicide at least three times in prison, his lawyer told a federal judge.

Kyle Fasold, who has been held since March of last year pending trial on child pornography charges, may be unable to properly defend himself, according to Charles F. Willson, the federal public defender representing him.

Willson on Monday filed a motion for a hearing into whether Fasold is competent to go to trial. Willson didn’t suggest that Fasold cannot understand the trial process, but suggested that the suicide attempts raise the issue of whether Fasold can assist in his own defense.
