Joe D’Ambrosio, longtime UConn sports play-by-play announcer and more recently a morning show host on WTIC-AM, announced Tuesday he is leaving the station earlier than expected.
D’Ambrosio posted on social media that Thursday will be his last day after 28 years. His contract was to end in June, but he negotiated a buyout, D’Ambrosio wrote.
D’Ambrosio, 67, has been with the station for decades. From 1992 to 2018, he was play-by-play announcer for UConn football and men’s basketball. In 2018, he lost that role when UConn moved the rights to its games to iHeart Media.
