In a difficult year, Christmas light traditions continue in Bristol, Plainville and Southington

The pandemic has curtailed holiday parties, Santa excursion trains, holiday concerts and more, but many of the biggest residential light displays in central Connecticut are still going on.

And in Southington, Bristol and Plainville, that’s good news for food banks and charities counting on donations from visitors.

“We’ve been collecting food for the food pantry that’s run by the Salvation Army, and I’m shocked — already I’ve brought them 408 pounds,” said Dean Woodruff, who puts on a holiday extravaganza outside his home at 56 Strawberry Lane in Southington.

“That’s 408 pounds in less than two weeks — usually we get about 500 for the whole season,” Woodruff said Friday.
