Joe Diorio, who runs a fishing guide service, recorded the animal as its mouth was coming out of the water. He said he saw it off the coast of Old Lyme; he posted the video on Facebook Wednesday.
“Here it is. There it is. There they are. OH MY GOD!” he exclaimed, laughing. “On camera! That is so sick!”
Two members of the fisheries division of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection saw the video and agree the whale appears to be a humpback, said Will Healey, a spokesman for the agency. They received a report of one near New London earlier in the week.
