Hartford’s Puerto Rican parade returns Saturday, celebrating essential workers who remained on the job during COVID-19

After COVID-19 forced the cancellation of Hartford’s annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in 2020, organizers are planning a return this weekend with a caravan traveling from Pope Park through several city neighborhoods before ending at Parkville Market in a “Thank you Healthcare & Essential Workers” celebration Saturday.

Hosted by the The Connecticut Institute for Community Development (CICD) Puerto Rican Parade Committee, the volunteer-led organization will march from Pope Park down Hillside Avenue, New Britain Avenue, Broad Street, Maple Avenue, Franklin Avenue, Wethersfield Avenue and Park Street beginning at 11 a.m. in a “Chinchorreo” caravan.

Following the arrival at Parkville Market, live music will blast from 2 p.
