Hartford police arrest ex-officer recently deemed unfit for duty; Zachary Freeto charged with felony computer crime

HARTFORD — An ex-Hartford police officer recently found unfit for duty and removed from the force was arrested Monday on a felony computer crime charge, the Hartford Police Department announced Tuesday night.

Zachary Freeto, whose employment with Hartford ended March 19, was charged by his former department with a first-degree computer crime following an internal investigation into an off-duty incident in Enfield, according to news release Tuesday evening.

Freeto, who served 19 years with Hartford police, had been on paid administrative leave since December 2020 “after several instances of misconduct and behavior that [Police Chief Jason Thody] felt questioned whether Freeto was able to properly and safely perform his duties,” the release stated.
