Hartford man struck by car earlier this month dies, investigation still underway, police say

A Hartford man struck by a car two weeks ago at a South End intersection has died, police announced Friday.

Raymond Colangelo, 54, died Tuesday after an 11-day stay at Hartford Hospital, Lt. Paul Cicero said. The driver of the car that struck Colangelo has cooperated in the department’s investigation.

Colangelo was crossing Maple Avenue near South Street at about 4:20 a.m. May 1 when he was struck by a car traveling south on Maple, Cicero said. Colangelo lived just a few houses away from the scene on Freeman Street.

It was raining at the time and Cicero indicated that lack of visibility through the rain at that early hour may have been a factor in the crash.
