HARTFORD — A Hartford public magnet school has been closed for the next two weeks, becoming the first in the district to experience a prolonged shutdown due to the coronavirus.

Environmental Sciences Magnet School at Mary Hooker will remain closed until Oct. 23, Principal Lindsey Thompson told families Thursday evening in a letter Hartford Public Schools provided to the Hartford Courant.

The school was already closed for two days last week in response to its first positive coronavirus cases. As of Friday morning, seven people at the school have tested positive for COVID-19, including a student who was in the Broadview Terrace school building on Thursday, according to the letter and district spokesman John Fergus.
