Hamden woman stabbed baby’s mother, then left baby girl in New Haven dumpster, police say

A Hamden woman accused of leaving an 8-month-old baby girl in a New Haven dumpster had stabbed the baby’s mother first, police said Tuesday.

Andiana Griciel “Nuni” Velez, 24, is a friend of the mother’s who had babysat for the child over the weekend, police said. The baby girl survived and remains at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, police said. The baby had burned on her hands, but investigators have not determined who burned her.

Velez was charged with risk of injury to a child, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment.
