Hamden woman ‘completely fabricated’ story to protect fiance accused in fatal hit-and-run crash that killed Wesleyan University worker, police say

Just over two months after a Wesleyan University was killed in a hit-and-run crash, Middletown police have charged the owner of the car with obstructing their case against her fiance, whom police believe was driving the car at the time of the crash.

Taquanis Sessoms, 29, turned herself into police Wednesday and was charged with second-degree hindering prosecution and interfering with an officer in connection with the March 4 crash that killed 41-year-old Brooke Rich as she left work at the university, police said.

Investigators believe Sessoms “completely fabricated a story” after police found her car with serious damage — and evidence of Rich’s red wig in its windshield — shortly after the crash and accused her fiance, Jerod Wilson, of being behind the wheel, Lt.
