Hamden man who fled to Ecuador after 2013 sexual assault arrested

A Hamden man who fled to Ecuador almost six years ago after posting bail for the sexual assault of a minor in 2013, was arrested Friday.

Edwin Arpi, 29, was charged with first-degree failure to appear and “additionally charged on the strength of six outstanding arrest warrants,” police said.

The arrest comes from a case, almost exactly eight years ago, on March 30, 2013, where police responded to the report of a sexual assault.

The juvenile victim told police she was sexually assaulted by a “friend,” they said. She told them that she met Arpi, who was 21 at the time, through a social media website.
