Gov. Lamont speaks with Pres. Trump, Connecticut gets green light for emergency declaration, aid

The federal government has approved Connecticut's application for an emergency declaration, paving the way for money to pay for recovery efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, Gov. Ned Lamont said Friday morning.

Lamont said he spoke on the phone late Thursday with Pres. Donald J. Trump and explained the reasons for request. The storm left more than 700,000 customers without electricity, many of whom are still without power days later. The storm also led to the deaths of two people.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency notified the state Friday morning that the emergency declaration had been approved, the governor said.
