Four taken to hospitals after East Hartford fire

Four people were taken to hospitals, one with serious injuries, after an apartment building fire in East Hartford Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls at 235 Main St. shortly after 4 p.m., Fire Chief John Oates said. The first firefighters encountered fire in a first-floor apartment. After pulling residents from first- and second-floor units, they doused the blaze.

One victim with significant respiratory injuries was taken to the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital, Oates said. No firefighters were hurt, he said.
