The latest string of shootings -- one of several in recent weeks – prompted the mayor to plead for peace.

“Our community has already experienced so much loss and pain – I implore those who are involved in the violence to do the right thing and stop contributing to further loss of life,” Mayor Justin Elicker said in a written statement emailed to the media at 12:30 a.m.

The first shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Dixwell neighborhood, on Munson Street near Sherman Parkway, police said. A 40-year-old man was killed.

The second was about an hour later on Ferry Street, near Fox Street, in the Fair Haven neighborhood, they said.
