Former UConn Baseball Player Nick Ahmed Wins Gold Glove Award

Former UConn baseball player and current Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed won his first career Gold Glove Sunday night, becoming the first-ever UConn product to do so.

Ahmed is widely regard as one of the top fielding shortstops in the majors and his numbers back that up, with just nine errors in 148 games this season. The advanced fielding stats are in agreement too, with Ahmed tied for first amongst shortstops with Andrelton Simmons with 21 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and ranking seventh with an Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR) of 4.6.

The five-year veteran also got it done with the bat this season, hitting 16 home runs and 33 doubles and posting career-highs in almost every major offensive statistic.
