Starting in September, Foodshare will decrease its emergency food distribution schedule at Rentschler Field in East Hartford from daily to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The organization has served more than 135,000 households over the past four months at its drive-through service in the massive lots outside Pratt & Whitney Stadium. The daily food distribution began April 20 in response to a spike in need as a result of pandemic-driven unemployment.
Foodshare will try out the scaled-down schedule and then evaluate whether it works or if the same number of people just try to cram their visits into the three available days, organization president and CEO Jason Jakubowski said.
