Five wounded in New Haven shootings over 24 hours

Five people were wounded, and at least one is in critical condition, after four shootings in 24 hours in New Haven, police said Monday.

Police said the spate of gunfire started about 1:50 a.m. Sunday and ended early Monday. It included a double shooting.

Officers learned about the most recent shooting shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, when a 27-year-old Hamden man walked into the emergency room of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s St. Raphael campus at 1450 Chapel St. He had a gunshot wound to the pelvic area. The man told investigators he had walked to the hospital after being shot on Shelton Avenue near Read Street.
