Five Meriden officers injured by fleeing driver, police say

Five Meriden officers were injured Monday when a driver slammed into their cars to get away from police and, in one case, ran over an officer’s foot, police said.

According to police, officers pulled up to a parked car on North 2nd Street about 5:20 p.m. to try to identify the three male occupants. As soon as the driver saw them, he put the car into drive and accelerated, “driving straight into one of the two police vehicles that had pulled in front of it,” police said. The release didn’t say whether the police vehicles were marked.

The driver, later identified as Camacho, put the car into reverse and slammed into another police car that had pulled up behind it, they said.
