Barr was riding a 1984 Harley-Davidson south on Thomaston Road about 5:45 a.m. when he lost control near Iffland Pond Road. He struck two traffic signs and the side of a pet supply store, state police said.
Barr was a member of the Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 in Farmington, the fire company said in a Facebook post later that day. Firefighters from different parts of the state offered their condolences.
“Dave was such a great person from a great family,” she said. He had "so much more to give and this is just heartbreaking. He will be greatly missed.
