Family of New Haven man who died in police custody demand information, police chief releases update

Hours after the family of a New Haven man who died in police custody demanded answers from police officials Wednesday, authorities announced that a preliminary investigation indicates the man died by suicide.

De’Sohn Wilson, 31, died early the morning of April 15 inside a cell at the New Haven Police Department’s Union Avenue Detention Center shortly after his arrest on domestic violence charges.

Wilson’s family gathered on the steps of the New Haven police headquarters on Wednesday, two weeks after the incident, to demand more information from police officials and Chief Otoniel Reyes responded Wednesday night with the announcement and his condolences.
