The family of a 95-year-old Suffield woman who was fatally mauled by a pit bull last fall has offered to settle a lawsuit brought against the dog’s owners, including a former state representative and animal rights activist, for $3.5 million, court records show.

John D’Aleo, the son of the victim, Janet D’Aleo, filed the lawsuit in Superior Court in December against Anne Hornish and her husband, Neil, after their dog Dexter attacked Janet D’Aleo while she visited the Hornish’s Thrall Avenue home on Nov. 6, 2019.

In an offer of compromise filed on Aug. 5, D’Aleo’s lawyer wrote that they are willing to settle the matter against the Hornishs.
