A suspected armed robber was taken into custody early Monday after he fled a convenience store holdup in East Hartford and held police at bay for almost two hours while holed up in his girlfriend’s nearby home, police said.
According to police, Pope held up Food Bag, 1259 Burnside Ave., about 4 a.m. Officers tracked him to a home on Outlook Street in Mayberry Village and surrounded the house.
After a process that took close to two hours, “Officers were able to talk the individual out of the house,” Lt. Michael DeMaine said.
Police recovered the gun, plus the stolen cash, Newport cigarettes and the store clerk’s cellphone, he said.
