East Hartford man may have been high on PCP when he sped destroyed car through downtown Hartford, police say

An East Hartford man may have been high on PCP when he crashed a car Monday in downtown Hartford and shocked drivers and bystanders by continuing to drive the destroyed vehicle around Main Street as if nothing was wrong.

After coming to a stop, the man reached for a .45-caliber handgun while police, firefighters and paramedics worked to free him from the car but he was disarmed by an officer before he picked up the weapon. He later damaged the inside of a police cruiser and bit a hospital security officer who was tending to his restraints.

Greg Crawford, 34, ultimately was charged with 14 offenses after the wild ordeal and is being held without bond, police said.
