Angry about an unpaid drug debt, a former Norwalk man in April trashed and set fire to a New Britain apartment in a building with children in it, police said.

Michael Edward Terry, 27, was arrested Monday on a warrant charging him with first-degree arson, they said. He is free on $50,000 bail and due to return to Superior Court in New Britain Nov. 16.

According to the warrant for Terry’s arrest, a 911 call came in about 4:30 p.m. April 6 about a fire in a third-floor apartment at 414 East St. The fire was out when firefighters arrived.
