Driver blamed passenger for drunken, double-fatal crash, then fled state, Shelton police say

A man police said was drunk when he caused a double-fatal crash in Shelton -- and later claimed a woman who was critically injured in the wreck had been behind the wheel -- has been arrested after he was found in North Carolina.

Rakiem Reid, 30, of Derby was extradited Thursday and charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, operation while under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and interfering with an officer, police said. He was in custody early Friday on $500,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned later in the day in Superior Court in Bridgeport.
