DEEP bans alcohol at six state recreation areas, effectively immediately

Starting today, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will temporary ban alcohol at six public recreation areas around the state until late August, they announced Thursday afternoon.

The temporary alcohol ban will be enforced at Gardner Lake State Park, Paugussett State Forest (upper Section)/George Waldo State Park, Wadsworth Falls State Park, Lake Waramaug State Park, Quaddick State Park and Beach Pond Boat Launch, Voluntown, including part of Pachaug State Forest, “within 500 yards inland from the Beach Pond shoreline.”

The reason for the ban is because of “increased crowds and alcohol consumption, which led to increased incidents of misconduct, unruly behavior, property damage, trespass, and complaints by other visitors and the surrounding communities,” DEEP said.
