Danbury’s coronavirus outbreak stems from travel, youth sports, worship services, mayor says

Danbury’s ongoing coronavirus outbreak, which has already led the city to shift its school year to remote learning and spurred the state’s first COVID-19 alert, appears to stem from travel, large worship services and youth sports, the mayor said Tuesday.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said at a Tuesday press conference that the city is still in the midst of contact tracing the several hundred coronavirus cases that have popped up in recent days. But so far, he said, it appears that the virus was spreading largely among families, after one member caught the virus either through travel or through a sanctioned event such as a summer soccer team or a relatively small back-yard barbecue.
