Hospitalizations for coronavirus-related illness in Connecticut declined again on Saturday and the infection rate remained low as the state pushed into a second phase of reopening its economy and the summer season started gearing up.
The state reported nearly 11,800 COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, the second-highest daily number since the pandemic struck in March. The highest daily volume was on June 13, with nearly 14,000. In the past seven days, about 61,400 tests were performed, well below the 100,000 that was initially thought needed to monitor new outbreaks as the state reopened.
Gov. Ned Lamont’s administration has backed off those numbers, pointing to other metrics that showed the state could push ahead with reopening safely.
