A Ledyard woman was charged with drunken driving Tuesday night after she slammed into the rear end of a state police cruiser Tuesday night on Interstate 395 in Norwich.

Jessica L. Clinton, 31, was arrested after the crash and the trooper inside the police cruiser was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The crash happened just after 9:15 p.m. Tuesday while the trooper was blocking the right hand lane to protect the scene of an earlier car crash, police said.

The trooper was entering information about that crash inside the vehicle with its light bar and emergency lights activated when Clinton failed to move her 2019 Kia Forte into the left lane and crashed into the cruiser, police said.
