Connecticut officials call Tropical Storm Isaias response inadequate with more than 600,000 still without power. PURA promises investigation.

Responding to a request from Gov. Ned Lamont, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority said Thursday it would launch an investigation into how Eversource and United Illuminating prepared for and responded to Tropical Storm Isaias.

PURA chairman Marissa P. Gillett said she was “deeply disappointed” in storm preparation efforts by the utility companies “made at the ratepayers’ expense over the past decade.”

“There has been a significant failure in communication here, leaving upward of 800,000 Eversource customers without even a clear way to report an outage from the outset of the storm event. There are disturbing reports emerging about the coordination, or lack thereof, between our electric utilities and the communities which they serve.
