Bronin addresses 'significant spike’ in Hartford gun violence; says ‘disruption of life’ from pandemic is likely playing a role

Hartford mayor Luke Bronin addressed a “significant spike” in gun violence in the city over the past few weeks Saturday, saying police are contending with “unprecedented challenges.”

“It’s hard to pinpoint with certainty the cause for this,” Bronin said during a press conference at Dillon Stadium before Hartford Athletic’s playoff game against St. Louis FC. “A lot of cities around the country are seeing a spike, and I think there’s no question that the profound disruption of life from the coronavirus pandemic has got to play a role.”

One person was killed and two more were injured in two separate shootings Friday night.
