The boyfriend of an East Haven mother whose body was unearthed this summer near a Branford parking lot was held on $2 million bail after facing a judge Monday following his arrest this weekend for murder.

Jonathan Jara-Aucapina, 27, was taken into custody at a New Haven diner and charged by local police in the death of Lizzbeth Aleman-Popoca, the mother of his 8-year-old daughter.

Aleman-Popoca first disappeared between June 30 and July 1. Her body was found by authorities two weeks later near the Branford parking lot.

Authorities have described Judge Jara-Aucapina as Aleman-Popoca’s longtime boyfriend.
